W J MORETON A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST BASED IN NORTHEAST SCOTLAND

My name is Bill Moreton and I live in a town called Peterhead, in the Northeast of Scotland. I am a self-taught, self-employed professional artist and have been selling artwork since 1970. I was born in Aberdeen and have lived in various parts of the world whilst serving in the Royal Air Force, before moving to Peterhead in Aberdeenshire on retirement in the year 2000.

Outside of my air force career I had always kept up with my artwork devoting much of my spare time to the practice of painting and drawing and although I'm very much a self taught Artist, I have had some formal training through distance learning courses and short courses with artists whose work I admired. I am also a member of the SSA ( Society of Scottish Artists ), AAS ( Aberdeenshire Artists Society ) and the SAA (Society for All Artists)

On retirement I was at last able to devote more time to my painting and my first exhibition was at Banff in 2001. My work now hangs in the Wallace Smith Gallery, Artworks gallery, St Andrews Hotel and many private homes. The majority of my work is of local Peterhead scenes, usually harbour or marine, but I also specialise landscapes and townscapes throughout the northeast of Scotland. I rarely accept commission work preferring to concentrate on painting mainly what excites me, this gives my work a personal dimension and me a stress free existence. This year (2004) I discovered acrylic paints with their vivid colours. This very exciting and quick drying medium has stimulated me to paint in a loose and free manner which I find rejuvenating .

In the 30 years I was painting in the air force I was travelling the world and sold my work wherever I was posted now at last I have taken root in Peterhead in my long dreamt of, small, but adequate art studio. My work has been exhibited throughout the northeast of Scotland mainly in Banff, Fraserburgh, Peterhead New Pitsligo, and Fyvie castle.

FAMILY
I met my wife Jan in 1964 and married her in Singapore in 1967 and I am pleased to say we are still very much together and extremely happy.. My daughter Karen was born on 06 August 1968 and now lives in Aberdeen with her partner Barry and our 4 lovely grandchildren Kerry, Lee, Jade and Aaron. My son Scot was born on the 22 March 1975 he now works and lives in London, sharing his men behaving badly flat with long term buddies Gary and Simon.
